Willowbrook offers an appealing mix
of ornamental shrubs, broadleaf evergreens, coniferous evergreens, shade &
flowering trees, groundcovers, perennials, vines, ferns, clematis, and specialty
items, most of which is container grown. They do offer a few items that are
field grown and field potted: upright junipers (available FP & container grown
for some varieties), boxwood (available FP & container grown).
Medallion Perennials: Willowbrook has a relatively broad offering of perennials,
literally offering hundreds of varieties, some of which are available in 1G,
some in 2G, and some in both 1G and 2G. They started off just growing perennials
in 1G but recently have begun expanding more into the 2G size. All herbaceous
perennials together with ferns, ornamental grasses, and groundcovers make up the
"Medallion Perennial" collection. All "Medallion Perennials" are shipped in tan
colored pots with their patented "lock in" medallion shaped, full color,
descriptive tag so that the plants stand out in the crowd.
Garden Pride Vines: All of Willowbrook's vines are shipped staked whether they
be in 1G or 3G containers. All 1G and 3G pots are blue. They offer a very broad
potted vine mix which goes above and beyond your basic mix: Actinidia kolomikta
(hardy kiwi), Aristolochia durior (Dutchman's Pipe), Campsis (4 types of trumpet
vine), Celastrus (3 types of bittersweet), Lonicera (6 types of honeysuckle),
Schizophragma, Wisteria (6 types), among others.
Flowering Shrubs and Broadleaf Evergreens: Willowbrook has a diverse offering of
flowering shrubs from the basics to the cutting edge. They have many of the
Color Choice Proven Winners as well as other colorful new varieties such as
Cornus alba 'Cream Cracker', Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo', Salix integra 'Hakuro
Nishiki', and Symphoricarpos 'Silver Edge'. They have a bunch of harder to find
varieties (which seem to find their way onto bid lists all the time) including
Cornus racemosa, Diervilla lonicera, Rhus typhina, and Stephanandra incisa 'Crispa'.
The broadleaf evergreen mix includes several boxwood varieties, a bunch of
Euonymus varieties, rhododendrons, several types of Yucca, amongst several other
items.
Conifers: Juniperus (upright and spreaders), Thuja, Chamaecyparis, Taxus, and
grafted spruce compose Willowbrook's conifer mix.
Container Grown Trees and Specialty Items: Willowbrook offers both shade and
flowering trees mostly in 15G pots but some varieties are available in pots as
large as 25G and as small as 7G and 10G. They also offer a diverse line of
specialty items. Willowbrook wisely promotes some of the specialty items like
Hibiscus standards, Hydrangea standards, and Ligustrum standards as "Small
Trees" with a colorful tag indicating it. Conversely, the larger shade and
flowering trees are promoted with a colorful tag that says "BIG TREES".
