Sales Department

McHutchison & Vaughan’s Vendor Management Director

As one of the industry faces for McHutchison & Vaughan’s Horticulture, this position demands complete professionalism, honesty, integrity and ethical standards while affording you a high degree of creativity, ingenuity and cross-functional collaboration. This role will lead our Vendor Management Team, which owns the relationships and program execution for our greenhouse, nursery, foliage and hard goods vendors.  This team’s success is based on the balance of negotiating, developing, and deploying programs and strategies that will create innovative, effective, and exciting sales opportunities for our sales team with operational fortitude, ensuring that your programs are well-designed for operational execution and growth in profitability for McHutchison & Vaughan’s Horticulture and for our customers.

This position will also hold the responsibility of maintaining and nurturing our relationships with our 3rd party breeder partners.

Vendor management supports the current efforts of our sales teams, but it also serves as a vital source for innovation-driving sales growth.  This candidate will effectively coordinate, communicate, and work across multiple channels including sales, marketing, operations, logistics, & finance.

 

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Previous work experience in product/vendor management, sales or purchasing in horticulture
  • Professional written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, influence and empower others
  • This position requires the ability to travel and work a flexible schedule; 10% travel estimated
  • Basic technology skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook are required; Intermediate technology skills in Excel required
  • Position is based in our Naperville, IL office, but remote location could be possible

 

Vendor Management Director Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire the Vendor Management Team and create an environment of ownership & accountability, creativity, attentiveness, and market awareness to our internal & external customers
  • Develop a mindset in our Vendor Program Managers that promotes the sustainable growth of McHutchison & Vaughan’s via partnering with our vendors
    • Create competitive advantages for our sales teams through the development and implementation of preferred or exclusive vendor programs
    • Work with our strategic breeder & vendor partners to develop long term growth strategies

 

  • Focus on setting market-based pricing for programs
  • Collaborate with vendors or sales and growth-based rebate programs
  • Explore Co-Op marketing opportunities
  • Lead annual vendor program review
  • Collaborate with Sales Management and Marketing to develop Sales & Marketing plans

Guide vendor managers in developing & executing segment strategies for their assigned vendors & programs

  • Member of EDI team and foster vendor efforts to promote integration with MCHV systems

 

Vendor Relationship Responsibilities

  • Manage the relationship for McHutchison & Vaughan’s with assigned vendors
  • Establish themselves as the point person and expert for assigned vendors with the McHutchison & Vaughan’s sales team
  • Grow sales margin revenue for assigned breeders to meet or exceed sales plan
  • Collaborate creatively among sales management, sales team & vendors to facilitate market-leading solutions

 

Tasks:

  • Lead Vendor Management Team meetings
  • Member of the McHutchison and Vaughan’s Leadership Team
  • Work with sales management and sales team to develop and implement growth strategies with key vendors and targeted programs
  • Work with finance to track our breeder & vendor rebate programs
  • Collaborate on the development targeted marketing campaigns to promote new sales opportunities
  • Develop marketing support tools and training, and coordinate communications for sales initiatives
  • Execute an annual line review and sales plan for key vendors
  • Travel to key vendors to build and maintain relationships
  • Oversee the setting of pricing and margin for assigned programs
  • Organize regional and national program and vendor training with the sales team
  • Coordinate vendor training and exposure at regional and national industry events (CAST, Culitvate, etc…)
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain and design relevant vendor sales reports including reports to track specific sales initiatives
  • Review customer claims & involvement in claim resolution when necessary
