In 2003, Beth and Jerry Blankeship sold their first crop of 5,000 three gallon oak container liners.  Today Blankenship Farms grows over 100,000 three and one gallon container liners and over 150 acres of B&B field trees and shrubs.  Jerry has been awarded the SNA Young Nurseryman of the Year, TNLA Young Nurseryman of the Year, and the TNLA Wholesale Nurseryman of the Year.  He has sat on the TNLA and National Arboretum Boards.

Product Availability Dates

Field stock is available October till May while container liners are sold mostly in the fall when nursery growers have the time to plant and establish the roots prior to winter dormancy and the busy spring season.  #15 gallon ornamental trees and shade trees are available year round.

Our first generation nursery produces #3 container liners grown in air root pruned containers to offer our customers a “mop” fibrous root system.    We strive to offer a wide variety of field grown plants and utilize local small growers to add hard to find specialty plants for our customers.

Company History

Botanico, Inc. was founded in 1983 by Bob Flanders. They are primarily a wholesale nursery that grows shade and ornamental trees as well as shrubs. Production methods include both field grown and containers. The company sells nursery and landscape grade plants to customers in the Northeastern, Midwestern, and Southeastern United States and operates on approximately 525 acres spread among six locations in Warren County, TN.

Botanico is run by members of MTNA, TNLA and the Nursery Advisory Group at TSU’s Otis Floyd Nursery Research Station. Company President, Jon Flanders, is currently serving as 3rd Vice President of TNLA. Dabney Turley, Vice President of Marketing, was recently honored by the Garden Club of America at a Black Tie Gala for his significant contribution to the industry and his work with the Memphis Botanic Garden.

Company History

Dave Wilson Nursery started in 1938 supplying fruit tree stock to the farmers in the California central valley. Servicing both the commercial trade, along with the home garden market, Dave Wilson Nursery is now the largest producer of deciduous fruit, nut and shade trees in the country growing on over 2,000+ acres.

DWN produces bare-root fruit, nut and shade trees in sizes ranging from 3/8” caliper to 1 ½” caliper.  Over 1,000 different varieties of assorted deciduous fruit trees on various rootstock options are available to suit most USDA zones. 

Unique multi-budded fruit trees and espaliers are just one of many specialty crops that are being offered.

DWN also offers a complete 4” small fruit/anti-oxidant program in ready to display cases.

All plant material is individually labeled with description tags.

Product Availability Dates

Shipping begins in late December and continues through late February.  Deliveries requiring a later ship date can be arranged with the use of cold storage facilities.

Distinctive Qualities

DWN is at the forefront of stone fruit and nut production. They specialize in hundreds of patented hybrid stone fruit such as the Pluot, Aprium, Nectaplum and Pluerry while offering all the old time favorites to fit everyone’s backyard orchard. All of their products are GMO-free.

Company History

Decker’s Nursery is a family nursery started in 1921 that propagates a wide variety of shrub liners, Rhododendron grafts, and conifer grafts. They offer a wide variety of new specialty plants from introduction companies like JN Selections, UpShoot, PlantHaven, Star Roses, and Proven Winners, as well as many high demand older varieties.

Key Product Lines and Sizes Produced

Most of their products are available as 2.5” (25 or 32 count), 4”(18 count), or 1 Gallon pots. Shrub liners are trimmed, well branched, and tightly rooted to give customers a quick turn product. Juniper, Spruce, and Pine are grafted on well rooted under stocks and are offered in different stages of growth that can go quickly to a pot or the field.

Product Availability Dates

With exception of freshly grafted material, Decker’s product is available as availability and weather allows. Fresh grafted material is generally shipped during May and June each year.

Company History

Don Schmidt Nursery is located on 200 acres in Boring, Oregon and has been family owned and operated since 1939. They specialize in Japanese Maples, Dogwood and Flowering Cherry varieties. Stock is grown on a six-to-ten-year growth cycle from seedlings or by grafting, and is cultivated using dry land farming techniques to produce a plant capable of withstanding higher levels of environmental stress.

Don Schmidt Nursery offers over 350 varieties of Japanese Maples along with Dogwoods and Flowering Cherry.

Upright Varieties are available from 3’ tall to 15’+

Laceleaf varieties are available from 18” tall to 12’+ wide

They also grow a large variety of dwarf Japanese maples to meet all needs of the landscape.

All plants are hand-balled in burlap by experienced professionals to ensure a quality package ready to sell to the end customer. Hand digging allows for more trees per shipment, reducing freight costs.

Product Availability Dates

Plants are dug to order. Digging season starts around the first of November and ends around the first of April, depending on weather. Shipments begin early November through the end of May. Varieties may ship during the summer depending on availability.

Ekstrom & Schmidt Nursery, LLC; Troutdale, OR

Company History

Ekstrom & Schmidt Nursery, LLC was initially formed in 2013 by Brandon Schmidt & Steven Ekstrom as a side business. The two always intended for the business to become a full time operation. In August of 2015, that goal came to fruition as Jim Ekstrom joined the project, bringing 40 years of generational experience with him to the nursery.

Ekstrom & Schmidt Nursery, LLC has around 180 acres of B&B nursery stock in production along with an expanding container yard and a line of Bare Root product. They offer a wide variety of woody ornamentals and evergreens including Japanese Maples, Birch, Redbuds, Katsura, Dogwoods, Beech, Hibiscus, Juniper, Magnolia, Picea, Pinus, Prunus, Styrax and Syringa just to name a few.

B&B nursery stock is available in late fall, with primary availability occurring in spring. Some stock is available on a year round basis.
